events

While the Crucible's world state goes largely unchanged, there are a few recurring observances or events that exiles have knowledge of and may make reference to in passing. The full details of each event will be expanded upon when they are introduced in-game.

fête.

Often, exiles of the Lonely Fortress will put together small scale feasts and events (referred to as fêtes) in times of low morale to try and offset an impending blood moon by doing something as a group to lift the spirits.

These events can be as simple as having a meal together and pretending not to be trapped in a hellscape. These events are often hedonistic in nature and focus, as the intent is bringing "positive" mood and energy to inundate egregore.

blood moon.

The Blood Moon (or eclipse event) is the Crucible's version of basically a Nightmare/Otherworld shift. The entire Crucible shifts into a warped, nightmarish version of itself after the egregore has been inundated with a constant swell of "negative" energy.

The blood moon will take on aspects and themes relating to the events and people who contributed to the pool in the previous chapter. Eclipse events are meant to be intense and potentially plot heavy events that can include whole setting shifts, AUs, puzzle games, etc. In order to avoid potential player burnout, these events can only be triggered by a contribution from the majority amount of the active player base and cannot occur back to back.

Occasionally, bits and pieces of the town come to life through the influence of the egregore, these are called echoes. When an echo occurs, the town reverts to what it looked like before its destruction: filled with light, life, and people. As realistic as it looks and feels, it's only a temporary illusion. The people generated by the egregore act with limited behaviors and memories.

One such echo that reoccurs regularly is the night market. Here, the town square's lanterns light up, and exiles from all corners of the Crucible stop by to collect supplies and relics that can't otherwise be found. This is considered a sort of rummage event where characters can gather unique items, exile tokens, and be introduced to alternative plotting and NPC opportunities.

The protection and bountiful amenities provided by the fortress do not come for free. Often times following a blood moon or after a long period of stability, the bounties provided by the Lonely Fortress will run out: food stores will begin to dry up, structures begin to decay, and the protective brambles will begin to dry out and shatter.

Fortress residents will reference renewing their Pact with the egregore. Renewal requires a sacrifice, usually a voluntary payment of blood. Further details to be provided after the first in-game pact renewal.

The egregore uses a vast pool of influence. its tides do not turn until enough blood has saturated its waters. Contributions to the eclipse pool should only include moments of deep duress or strong surges of negative uncontrollable emotions like grief, fear, panic, hysteria, and rage. People of various skill levels will put their dueling to the test while inebriated or otherwise handicapped to even the playing field and hopefully not accidentally stab each other. Behaves much like a medieval tourney with an audience that gives out favors. Winners will be sorted by RNG and gifted unique rewards from the nightmarket (will need those generated by the mod.)
